Job Description

POSITION TITLE:  LIBRARY AIDE-COMPUTER LAB MONITOR   (Fluctuating Hourly) (Hourly)

LOCATION:  LIBRARY

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:  Part-Time, Fluctuating Hourly

HOURLY RANGE: $11.50 DOE

Summary:  Provide excellent customer service while assisting patrons in the use of public internet stations, Xerox machines, audiovisual equipment, and study rooms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist patrons using public internet stations.
  • Assist patrons in locating library materials utilizing Public Access Catalog (OPAC).
  • Assist patrons in the use of Xerox machines (copying, scanning, emailing, faxing, and wireless printing.
  • Assist patrons with 3D printing jobs.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities include the following:

  • Must be customer service-oriented.
  • Ability to work effectively with many diverse populations including people experiencing homelessness.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Ability to show patience and maintain professionalism when working with challenging patrons.
  • Must be able to use a personal computer, demonstrating a working knowledge of all Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, via telephone, and in writing.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and to exercise independent judgment as required.
  • Ability to multi-task while working with interruptions.

Education and Experience:

Minimum age of 18 with high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.  Experience working in a library, retail environment, or computer-related field preferred. 

Language Abilities: 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
