240 total hours (approx 8 hrs/week), $3,000
Description: Gain practical professional experience in a fast-paced academic library. The CU-Boulder University Libraries is looking for a Public Services Apprentice who will receive training in the research competencies and issues that are essential to new academic librarians. The Apprentice will provide research assistance in person and virtually in a major academic library that serves a world-class research university. Requires a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend hours. This apprenticeship is a great opportunity to supplement your graduate studies with experiential learning.
Responsibilities:
- Provide research assistance at the Norlin Library Research Desk
- Staff the Libraries’ chat reference service
- May be asked to attend trainings, workshops, and meetings with ample opportunity for professional development.
- Attend at least one Friends of Libraries meeting per semester, as schedule permits.
- Other projects or duties are possible based on the interests of the applicant and needs of the library.

Qualifications:
- A strong customer service orientation and a desire to provide high quality research assistance.
- Currently enrolled as a library & information science graduate student for the duration of the apprenticeship.
- Completion of/current enrollment in a library reference/research course or relevant coursework.
- Interest in pursuing a career in academic librarianship.

Additional Information:
This program begins in late August and runs through May of the following year. The Apprentice is expected to complete 120 hours each semester for a total of 240 hours over CU’s academic year 2017-2018 (approximately 8-10 hours per week). The Apprentice will be paid $12.50/hr for up to $3,000 for the academic year. For full consideration, apply by July 23, 2017.
