Job Description

The City of Aurora's Library and Cultural Services Department is looking for a Library Assistant to provide System Support help in the areas of collection development and management, cataloging, records maintenance, report generation, website design and content, Inter-library loan and problem solving.  Library Assistants may also on occasion train other staff and volunteers in these areas as needed. 

 Primary Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze usage data for trends to guide collection development
  •  Process weeded materials
  •  Search for, evaluate and place orders for monographs and media
  •  Load and quality check cataloging records
  •  Receive library materials. Open boxes, verify packing lists, Inspecting materials for damage and verifying invoices
  •  Physical processing and maintenance of items as needed, e.g., buffing, labeling, etc.
  •  Process donations and train other staff and volunteers on donations processing
  •  Millennium/Sierra records analysis and maintenance, i.e., maintain an accurate database Run and take action on a variety of reports in support of ILS records maintenance
  •  Format, upload, add, edit and delete website/WebPac content and links
  •  Work with website/WebPac design elements
  •  Assist in cataloging and collections as needed
  •  Provide backup for ILL if needed
  •  May train other staff members on any of the above
  •  Additional duties as assigned
