Job Description
Background Info: Become a Librarian at the Learning and Language Branches and bring services to customers who are working towards an improved quality of life. The key role of this branch is to bring bilingual library services and resources to a diverse customer base that includes new immigrants and their families. Adult programming with concurrent children’s programming is a focus of these branches as part of a bilingual and intergenerational environment. Duties and Responsibilities: Creates lifelong library customers by implementing library services designed to serve and empower a population aiming to learn and explore new frontiers. Fulfills the expectations of a diverse population, in particular addressing the largest language needs in our communities, Spanish and Vietnamese. Designs and provides programming and an environment that fits the needs of new immigrant families, bilingual families or those seeking to learn new skills. Provides reader’s advisory and reference assistance. Staffs a busy reference desk, serving a diverse clientele of all ages. Promotes community outreach and programming. Communicates effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers, and administration. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of providing library services to customers who may not have literacy or technology skills. Skill in providing programming and services in a bilingual and intergenerational environment. Skill in providing reference, reader’s and media advisory. Service to all ages. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to perform community outreach and programming for all ages. Spanish language skills a plus.Additional Info & Requirements
