The Library seeks a motivated and professional Library Services Assistant that is currently enrolled in an MLIS degree program for the Fall Semester, with possible renewal for spring. This position offers an opportunity to learn about technology, cataloging, data gathering and circulation functions and potentially reference and instruction in a library.
This position is subject to the nine months on, four months off rule. This means the employee can work up to 28 hours per week for a nine month contract, but then will be off for four months. This position will work, on average, 20 hours per week and must be able to work rotating Saturdays (9:00 am – 2:00 pm) and evenings (open until 9:00 pm) as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists patrons with technology issues, computer systems, and multimedia equipment.
- Assists in maintaining records and statistics on library usage
- Catalogs new materials using OCLC WMS
- Assists with the library’s social media presence
- Sells used books on Amazon/eBay or similar platform
- Assists patrons at the circulation desk
- Completes and leads additional projects as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited MLIS program
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong technology skills including MS Office and Internet
