Job Description

You will manage the Koelbel Library, located in the heart of Greenwood Village and next door to a senior living community, serving community members from all walks of life. You will also oversee "lending services" for the entire library system, as well as a staff team that provides on-call support for all Arapahoe Libraries locations. This position offers the unique combination of managing one library location, while being very involved in projects and initiatives that affect the entire library system.

Reports to: Director of Library Operations

Supervises: Directly supervises library supervisors and/or coordinators. Indirectly supervises up to 35 professional and paraprofessional library staff.

Position: 40 hour, full-time; exempt position

Pay Range: $60,800 - $91,220

Role: Manages the operations of the Koelbel library and/or one or more Library District-wide service functions. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

35% SERVICE MANAGEMENT – Sets standards and goals for the operation of the unit, develops concepts, practices, techniques and innovations to improve the quality of service, challenges operating processes for greater efficiency and effectiveness, communicates effectively and facilitates problem solving in order to manage the service operations of the organizational unit(s).

30% PROJECT MANAGEMENT– Sets goals for district project(s), establishes implementation team (s) and timelines for completion, and collaborates effectively with department managers to achieve desired outputs and outcomes for the organization.

25% SUPERVISORY PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT – Sets performance objectives for direct and indirect reports, observes and documents performance, rewards and disciplines performance, provides active coaching and mentoring, and manages pay and performance of direct and indirect reports. Performs the duties of Supervisors in their absence to ensure the proper functioning of the organizational unit. Responsible for hiring the best and brightest candidates for all positions in the organizational unit.

10% RESOURCE MANAGEMENT – Supports direct report Supervisors by arranging for budget, staff and other resources in order to provide the necessary resources to accomplish the work of the organizational unit(s).  Responsible for an annual operating budget of around $4 million, and capital projects ranging from $50,000-$5,000,000.

Qualifications:

Five to ten years of supervising or managing in a library setting, or related industry, required.

MLS or MLIS degree, required.

Two to five years of project management experience, preferred.

Two to five years of budget management experience, preferred.

Advanced technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook, required.

The ability to motivate and influence others is essential to the job, requiring skills in diplomacy, trust and team building.

Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with patrons and employees.
