Job Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Library and Archives, the Library Generalist will perform paraprofessional level library work in both public and technical services while acting as a floater between Naropa University’s three library branches. This position will perform a range of the following duties as designated by the Director of Library and Archives and influenced by which library branch they are supporting. Public service includes managing patron accounts and helping students, faculty, and staff who use the library. Technical services include circulation, cataloging, and collection management projects.

Job Duties:  

  • Provide service at the front circulation desk at all libraries, often as the only on-duty staff member—this includes checkout, shelving, and technology assistance.
  • Provide basic reference service.
  • Support and train work study students at the circulation desk.
  • Assist with management of library materials, including deaccessioning and suggesting titles for replacement or purchase.
  • Manage AV equipment at branch libraries, including, ensuring effective and efficient use of audiovisual equipment reservation system by patrons, and liaising with the Information Technology Department.
  • Assist with Archival Processing Assistant in cataloging and uploading digital content to the University’s digital archive. 
  • Liaise with Access Services Librarian to support EReserves needs, including scanning course materials.
  • Liaise with the Technical Services Librarian to support copy cataloging and collection management projects.
  • Other projects assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Moderate to high level of computer literacy.
  • An understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace.
  • Commitment to co-create an inclusive community and actively participate in related professional development, including openness to feedback and on-going self-examination.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of circulation and/or reference experience in an academic library.
  • Copy cataloging experience.
  • Knowledge of AACR2r, RDA, LCSH, and OCLC.
  • Experience cataloging music recordings.
  • Knowledge of ADA and copyright law.
  • Experience using EReserves systems and ELearning platforms.
