Job Description

What you'd do:

Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to increase the level of the community's awareness of the library's programs, services and resources and elevate the profile of the library overall. Participate in the development and implementation of organization-wide strategic and operating plans, with a focus on internal and external communications. Oversee all communications, marketing, social media and public relations efforts. Set organizational brand, creative, communications and public affairs strategy. Act as official library spokesperson. Manage sensitive communications issues and crisis communications. Serve on library's Executive Team. Represent the library in the community on committees, working groups and at events including weekends and evenings. Interface with City and County of Denver agencies and other partners and develop and maintain relationships with key city officials. Liaison with the Denver Public Library Friends Foundation. Work with team to develop strategy for engaging key constituent groups. Work with team to research and develop strategic partnerships that benefit programs, services, collections, grants and long-term relationships. Set overall strategy for library systemwide outreach. Supervise Communications and Community Engagement division employees. Recommend communications policy and manage all divisional activities. Oversee budget and personnel for department. Create a work environment that encourages high performance, excellent customer service, collaboration and innovation.

We have an opportunity for a strong and energetic leader to join the Library's Executive Team to provide vision and guidance to the library's Communications and Community Engagement team as well as work collaboratively with Executive Team members to develop and implement strategies to ensure the library meets the needs of the Denver community now and in the future. The Communications and Community Engagement Director is responsible for providing direction and leadership for organization-wide marketing, communications and community engagement strategy, programs and policies to support the library's mission, vision, values and community impacts.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers depend on qualifications and typically do not exceed the midpoint.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include evening and weekend hours.

A Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related degree.

Five years experience in Marketing and Communications at a managerial or higher level with three years of supervisory responsibility.

Extensive experience with media relations, social media engagement and community outreach.

Experience with coaching and leading individuals and teams.

Experience with successful evaluation, measurement and accountability practices.
