Job Description

Douglas County Libraries is currently seeking an energetic and highly-motivated individual to manage all material handling duties including processing library materials, manually or using automated handling equipment. This position supervises, coaches, hires and evaluates the Material Handling Technician (MHT) and Lead MHT employees and monitors the workload of staff. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment and initiative.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills. “Big Picture” perspective.
  • An experienced supervisor to manage, train and create complex and efficient scheduling for 25 staff members, while staying positive in the face of challenges.
  • Excellent patron service skills and experience. Must consistently practice the "patron comes first" philosophy.
  • An excellent communicator skilled in creative problem-solving, conflict management, and negotiating solutions to performance problems: decisive and collaborative with others.
  • An experienced supervisor with the ability to motivate a team: be an active listener, particularly adept at communicating with clarity in order to create an overall understanding of the issue/problem.
  • Organizational skills to plan, facilitate, attend and participate in committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Ability to monitor and analyze sorter functions to ensure maximum efficiency; ensures that all library materials “exceptions” that are not handled by the sorter are resolved.

  • Serve as a Person in Charge (PIC) within the branch, in concert with other supervisory and professional staff in the branch.
  • Must be able to learn and teach staff the circulation system functions and procedures.
  • Must read, write and understand English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Must demonstrate a positive and professional attitude and image in order to effectively represent the District. Must exhibit a willingness to cooperate with patrons, general library staff members, and volunteers, technical, support services and administrative staff members.

 

Starting Salary: $1,642.40 Biweekly
