Job Description

LibSource, a LAC Group company, seeks a Research Analyst for a major law firm client with offices in New York City. The Research Analyst will be required to perform detailed and complex legal and business research using a variety of electronic and print resources, along with training, collection development and maintenance, and general library tasks. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct high-level, customizable research and analytics in legal, business, public records, legislative and other subjects.
  • Analyze, interpret, evaluate and recommend current and emerging legal and business tools, including current awareness and research tools  and provide training on research strategies and resources as requested.
  • Participate in collection development including new databases, websites and print material; prepare resource review report as assigned: compare resource with other firm resources and competing products to make informed recommendations for renewal or cancellation.
  • Keep up to date on industry trends and best practices.
  • Work with colleagues and users to develop and implement current awareness tools.
  • Communicate effectively with publishers and other information providers to advance the interests of the firm.
  • Work closely with on-site and off-site team members to ensure highest level of services to users.
  • Respond to general information requests and assist in locating books and publications.
  • Participate in professional associations, professional networking, and online communities.
  • Provide training and support to users and colleagues.
  • Perform related tasks as assigned and participate in special projects as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years’ experience performing legal research, preferably in a law firm or legal environment.
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of legal and business research tools and resources commonly used in large law firms with consistent ability to determine the appropriate resource based on time and cost requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, able to listen and communicate clearly and effectively, ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, attorneys, and other support staff.
  • A high service level and collaborative mindset, and the ability to interact with a wide variety of users on a professional level.
  • The ability to work independently and in a virtual team environment, set priorities, and handle multiple tasks under pressure.
  • General knowledge of library service tasks and programs.
  • Knowledge of integrated library system such as EOS or Sydney.
