Description:

The Prescott Valley Public Library seeks a dynamic, people-oriented Library Director with proven administrative, fiscal and public service experience.  This unique opportunity is available due to the current Library Director's retirement after 30 years of service.  The Library Director provides leadership, management, administration and direction for the overall operation and activities of the Library.  Located approximately 87 miles northwest of Phoenix, Prescott Valley is a well-established community nestled between the Mingus and Bradshaw Mountain Ranges.  As one of the fastest growing communities in the state, Prescott Valley is the largest community in Yavapai County with more than 45,000 residents.  Neighboring communities boast a quad-city population of approximately 100,000 providing the experience of a smaller community with all the culture and amenities of a larger metropolitan area.

Example of Duties:

Sets priorities and establishes policy and direction for Library services.  Selects, supervises, coaches, motivates and evaluates staff.  Plans, organizes and participates in department programs and public functions for the purpose of promoting the Library as a community gathering place with a collection of materials, resources and services that meet the diverse needs of the community.  Manages the preparation and administration of a balanced budget.  Partners with the Friends of the Library, Adult Literacy Group, Town Departments, institutions of higher learning and the business community to deliver relevant services.  Additional information available at:  PrescottValleyLibraryDirector

Typical Qualification:

Requires a Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS) and 8 years of professional experience in a public library, including 5 years in a senior management role.  Must be skilled in all aspects of library administration, including personnel and financial management.  The preferred candidate will be a progressive leader who is emotionally intelligent, capable to influence and inspire others to align visions.  Collaborative in nature, the Library Director must have a positive, relaxed and out-going demeanor, possess exceptional communication skills, and be a person of strong character.  Proficiency in operating computer systems and other related Library equipment is required.  Must have a valid driver's license.  The successful candidate must have the ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening test and extensive background investigation.  Online application with attached cover letter, salary history and resume are required.
