Job Description
The Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum invites applications for a new position. The Museum Operations Manager provides support to the Museum Director by managing and enhancing all aspects of daily operations, providing backup support for the Library's Access Services Department and coordinating and expanding cross-unit Museum/Library collaborative initiatives.
Museum responsibilities include gift shop management, budget and financial reporting, general record keeping, rental scheduling, student worker supervision, and statistical reporting. Under the direction of the Museum Director, this position also provides support with fundraising, grant writing, marketing, displays and exhibits, research inquiries, programming, and other museum enhancing initiatives. Other responsibilities include serving an average of four hours per week providing backup support as needed to the Library's Access Services Department, including circulation desk and inter-library loan support; and providing Museum/Library Joint Initiatives Support.

The Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum is the second most visited university geology museum in the country and the first to receive a moon rock on loan from the Johnson Space Center in Houston. In 2016, we had over 27,000 visitors from 50 states and 53 foreign countries. Since our founding in 1874, our Museum has obtained and displayed significant mineral, fossil, gemstone, meteorite, and mining artifact exhibits. Our collection now includes over 55,000 cataloged specimens. Our Museum is currently staffed by 14 students and ~40 volunteers.
- Colorado mining/geoscience history education
- Demonstrated evidence of continuing education in a geoscience, museum or library field
- Experience managing or working in museums and museum-related organizations
- Experience working in a library, particularly in Access Services
- Retail management experience, including online sales and sales expansion
- Experience and demonstrated engagement in the fields of Colorado mining/geoscience history
- Experience developing and maintaining websites
