SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Manages interlibrary loan (ILL) services including both lending and borrowing; completes repairs for damaged books and other library materials using current preservation methods and standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES (· denotes essential/primary responsibilities, o denotes secondary responsibilities)
- Supervise the operation of the Interlibrary Loan Department including both borrowing and lending operations.
- Supervise student workers in the day-to-day operations of the departments, including on-going training as needed.
- Use and manage specialized library software and services, including ILLIAD, OCLC, RAPID, and integrated library system to process ILL requests.
- Search for and order a variety of materials (monographs, theses, government documents, conference proceedings and journal articles); verify bibliographic references and citations using OCLC and online citation databases
- Determine the best lending source or document supplier based on time, cost, and copyright regulations.
- Send materials on loan from CC's collections to other libraries, selecting appropriate delivery method (RAPID, Odyssey, email, courier, fax, UPS, U.S. mail).
- Set priorities for workflow in the department, constantly assessing effectiveness of service.
- Collaborate with Library Systems Department to troubleshoot software and handle network problems; make recommendations regarding software and systems upgrades, and plan implementation.
- Track, update and maintain records on all materials lent and borrowed; prepare statistics and describe department activity annually to the Library Director; authorize payment of invoices, bills other institutions, and send overdue/lost charges incurred by faculty and students to the Circulation Department.
- Protect patron confidentiality and maintain a database containing confidential patron records.
- Insure that ILL transactions follow U.S. Copyright Law and maintain required records.
- Promote good relationships with other ILL departments by assuring the timely return of borrowed materials, and by maintaining good communication when problems arise.
- Deal discretely with patrons, including sensitive reminders for overdue materials.
- Communicate changes in ILL services to reference and circulation staff; speak with research classes for thesis students about ILL services as requested by liaison librarians.
- Participate in library work groups, including public services work group and reference practicums as needed; participate in the life of the college through library and campus committees.
- Participate in appropriate continuing education for keeping abreast of interlibrary loan trends and software changes; represent CC at state and regional ILL conferences.
- Print request slips, pull requested items from the Creekside facility and then transport these materials to the Tutt Library Circulation department; provide on-site access and support to some Creekside materials; re-shelve items that return to Creekside, and assist with shelf-reading.
- Use highly specialized book mending skills and preservation techniques to repair damage to books under the direction of the Collections Librarian.
- Assess the condition of books and determine the best methods and approaches to repair; recommend replacement of books to the Collections Librarian when appropriate.
- Acquire and maintain archival quality equipment and supplies such as a book binding machine, book presses, hand tools, pamphlet binders and repair tapes.

o Promote a culture of safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents; following college procedures; and participating in appropriate safety training.
o Demonstrate environmental sustainability by using college resources wisely and supporting the college’s sustainability initiatives and innovation.
o Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Two years college/Associate's degree or equivalent work experience plus two years of related experience; proficient with computer software programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel; experience working in a networked environment and familiar with file management; knowledge of library systems such as OCLC, ILLIAD, and Rapid; bibliographic and research skills; attention to detail and ability to perform detailed work for extended periods, sometimes under time pressure; excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Physical requirements include ability to push loaded book truck; possible exposure to chemicals and solvents. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado College’s motor vehicle insurance carrier.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; library technical services and public services experience; experience with specialized library systems such as Innovative Interfaces and OCLC; experience with the ILLiad software; experience with book mending or similar techniques.
