Job Description

The successful candidate will help the Mines Library enhance discovery and use of our rich collections and services. Duties will include: Develop and maintain local policies for, and participate in the creation of, original and complex copy-cataloging in multiple formats; evaluate and make recommendations concerning emerging metadata standards; oversee catalog maintenance activities, including metadata loads, record source management, and database quality control issues as they relate to bibliographic and item-level access to library resources; participate, plan, organize, and evaluate the library management system workflows (particularly as they relate to cataloging) to maximize efficiency and responsiveness to the needs of the other library departments and of library users; coordinate and manage OCLC services and authority control; and supervise and train students and staff member(s) working on cataloging and metadata quality control projects, copy cataloging, and database maintenance activities. S/he will remain informed about emerging issues, standards, and technologies regarding the library profession. S/he will serve on committees for the Library, the University, and other organizations, contribute to the profession, and engage in scholarship.

Requirements include:

  • Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited school (granted by start date) and experience cataloging or managing metadata
  • Familiarity with current and emerging issues, trends, workflows, and best practices in metadata
  • Knowledge of bibliographic metadata standards, including RDA, MARC, LCC, LCSH, and experience creating and working with authority data
  • Flexibility and creativity in adapting to rapidly changing metadata management circumstances
  • Ability to work effectively in both an independent and collaborative and complex environment
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, including complex problems solving
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Commitment to user-centric librarianship, scholarship, and service
