Job Description

The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency and interest in current and emerging technologies, will be skillful in providing assistance to underserved populations, well informed about the newest career trends and eager to share this knowledge with our patrons.

Location: Various Arapahoe Library District library locations as needed

Reports to: Librarian Supervisor

Supervises: 0

Position: Full-time, exempt position. Ability to work evenings and weekends, required.

Pay Rate: $47,476-$62,800

Role: Provides career advising expertise to patrons regarding the job search process, interviewing, resumes, cover letter writing, and additional areas of career planning.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

20% - Reference/ Advisory Services: Conducts Book-a-Librarian sessions, answers phone hunt group questions.  

20% - Outreach/Partnerships: Provides outreach and facilitates partnerships with the job and career organizations, networking groups, and underserved populations such as ESL students.

20% - Programming: Develops, coordinates, and facilitates a variety of career services programs. Collaborates across departments in program development and promotion.

20% - Staff Training and Branch Liaison: Develops trainings to improve the knowledge, skill and ability of paraprofessional staff. Provides informal mentoring to branch staff by participating in staff meetings and outreaching to staff to reinforce information received at formal trainings.  

10% - Web Content Development: Creates web content using Bibliocommons platform, maintains Career Services page on Arapahoe Libraries website.

10% - Professional Development: advancing professional knowledge and networking through attending and presenting at professional conferences and publishing in professional journals.

Qualifications:

Minimum of two years of library related experience, required.

MLS or MLIS degree, required.

Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, required.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Advanced technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook, required.

Ability to travel to other work/library locations, as needed, required.

Evidence of ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a changing environment.

Experience in public service, including the ability to interact effectively with patrons and staff.

Intermediate skills in Sierra, preferred.

Ability to be mobile 100% of the time and sit as needed; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds, 10% of the time, required.

Ability to communicate openly, directly, clearly and respectfully with customers and colleagues to advance the interests of the library.

Ability to demonstrate knowledge of library and information science theory, information creation, organization, and delivery as it applies to the Arapahoe Library District.

Ability to exhibit leadership skills including critical thinking, active listening, risk taking, and creativity, regardless of position within the organization structure.

Ability to comfortably present information in a clear and engaging manner in dealing with customers and colleagues one-on-one or in groups, in formal and informal settings.

Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun.

Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.

Ability to successfully work with varying demographics, required.
