Marmot Library Network -- Open Position -- Developer
Due to the successful growth of Pika discovery software, Marmot is expanding its R&D Team.
Marmot develops, maintains, and supports open source Pika discovery software to power online catalogs for hundreds of libraries in Colorado and other states. Marmot uses Islandora digital repository software to power the Marmot Digital Archive, which won the 2017 Colorado Library Project of the Year Award by the Colorado Association of Libraries.
The Marmot R&D team responsible for Pika and Islandora now includes a Senior Developer, a Product Owner, and a Developer. R&D works in a SCRUM development framework to plan and develop code releases.

This job may be based at the Marmot office in Grand Junction, or at a home office in Colorado with good access to member library locations.

Additional Info & Requirements
Must live in Colorado and have a valid Colorado Driver's License
- Practical understanding of computers, networks, operating systems, Windows, Linux, and related technology
- Practical knowledge of HTML standards and Apache web server configuration
- Demonstrable skill with PHP, familiarity with PHP setup and configuration
- Demonstrable skill with CSS, familiarity with CSS frameworks such as Bootstrap, familiarity with CSS compiling such as LESS
- Demonstrable skill with Javascript, familiarity with Javascript frameworks such as jQuery
- Demonstrable skill with MySQL
- Introductory knowledge of Java
- Familiarity with integrated library systems, particularly Sierra by Innovative Interfaces; and catalog discovery layers, particularly VuFind by Villanova University or Pika by Marmot Library Network
- Desirable skills include website graphics design, MARC and library cataloging standards, Solr, and Git or similar version control software.
- Agile development methodology (SCRUM)
- Ability to discern specific problems in symptoms reported by non-technical users, and to explain technical material in non-technical terms
- Ability to respond promptly to system emergencies
The Community
The city of Grand Junction is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Mesa County, Colorado. It is the principal city of the Grand Junction Metropolitan Statistical Area which had a population of 146,723 in 2010 census.
The Colorado National Monument, a unique series of canyons and mesas, overlooks the city on the west. Most of the area is surrounded by federal public lands managed by the US Bureau of Land Management.
The Grand Junction area has developed as a major mountain biking destination, with many bikers coming from the Front Range of Colorado, the Salt Lake City area, and as far away as California to enjoy the area's abundant single-track trails.
