Job Description

The Research and Instruction Librarian is a full-time, exempt-level position reporting to the Library Director. Our team of six, plus student staff, serves more than 1,300 traditional undergraduates and 5,800 adult and distance learners in a dynamic and growing academic library. The library offers a creative and friendly environment that focuses on student and faculty support. We are a flexible team that embraces new technology and user demands to provide excellent library service.

This 12-month position offers faculty rank and status with staff benefits and vacation. CCU does not offer tenure. This position will require evening and occasional weekend hours.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Lead in providing reference, instruction, and research assistance to CCU students
  2. Lead in providing the Book-A-Librarian signature service
  3. Build and maintain effective relationships with faculty and students
  4. Increase visibility of the library and library resources by doing outreach and some event planning
  5. Design Information Literacy lesson plans and provide classroom instruction
  6. Use LibGuides, IM, Zoom, and other tools to reach students on and off campus
  7. Serve on faculty and consortia committees
  8. Contribute to the day-to-day operation of a small library in all aspects including (but not limited to): circulation, collection management, staff supervision, website updates, training, tech support, and event planning

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. A Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program is required
  2. Academic library experience preferred (could include paraprofessional, internship, practicum, etc.)
  3. Reference and instruction experience strongly preferred
  4. Excellent collaboration skills and strong commitment to teamwork
  5. Effective written and oral communication skills
  6. Self-motivated and self-directed, flexible, and willing and able to work and learn in a changing environment
  7. Able to balance creativity and practicality, to take initiative, and to follow through on projects
  8. Confident instructor in a classroom setting
  9. Familiar with course management software, LibGuides, and ILS (III’s Sierra preferred)
  10. Familiar with professional issues, trends, and technology in academic librarianship

  1. Committed follower of Jesus Christ, who believes there is no salvation apart from faith in his atonement on the cross, by grace alone becoming "born again" thus beginning a personal relationship with Christ, the Son of God.
  2. Able to effectively communicate personal faith and apply biblical principles and convictions in the workplace. Must have a strong sense of calling to the ministry of Colorado Christian University.
  3. Regularly attend and be engaged in meaningful involvement in a Bible-believing evangelical local church. Knowledgeable about the Word of God and passionate about Christian education.
  4. Must be a traditional evangelical Christian whose lifestyle is in consonance with sound Christian principles, is compatible with CCU’s Statement of Faith, and is in agreement with the Strategic Objectives promulgated by the University.
