Job Description

Role: Supervises and leads the service offerings of the Technology Specialist team, including acting within a Technology Specialist role as needed.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

40% SUPERVISION & TRAINING

  • Supervises the Technology Specialist team and provides ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Conducts scheduling of the Technology Specialists, ensuring coverage during peak library usage times and adequate backup coverage.
  • Actively solicits input from Technology Specialists on current service offerings, data observations and areas of need.
  • Provides procedure, safety and equipment training to Technology Specialist staff.
  • Identifies opportunities for new technology to be showcased by the Technology Specialist team.

40% TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST COVERAGE

  • Performs the role and responsibilities of the Technology Specialist position in a backup and/or supportive role by providing advanced patron support for technology questions at a point of service within various library branches.
  • Acts as the first level Technology Specialist backup to cover absences or dropped shifts. 

10% COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION

  • Serves as the communication ambassador for the Technology Specialist team for library staff and the community.
  • Collaborates with the Information Services team and branch supervisors to gather input and feedback on the direction of the Technology Specialist team.
  • Regularly attends staff meetings to learn of staff pain points with technology and to collaboratively find ways to elevate the overall technology skills of the organization.

10% TREND AND DATA ANALYSIS

  • Tracks usage data and provides recommendations for improvement.
  • Stays current with the trends of creative spaces, technology spaces, libraries and technology to keep our technology services as relevant as possible.
  • Actively solicits feedback from patrons and staff to inform the direction of the Technology Specialist team.

Qualifications:

Two to five years of experience related to technology support and education, required.

Bachelor's degree, required.

Two to four years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role, preferred.

Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills, including responsibility for outcomes, personal productivity, practical thinking, adaptability, coaching, interpersonal skills and business ethics, required.

Experience with 3D printing, scanning and digital design software, required.

Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed, required.

Ability to be mobile 100% of the time.  Lift up to 35 lbs.

Intermediate technology skills for Windows, Mac, Apple iOS, Android, Linux, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Outlook, required.

Strong communication skills with the ability to accurately lead projects and express ideas through various communication methods including: written, oral, web, video and social media, required.

Effective collaborator capable of leveraging the talents of other staff members to solve problems, required.

Ability to perform intermediate troubleshooting on equipment, machinery, hardware and software, required.

Intermediate understanding of current and upcoming technology items including virtual reality, augmented reality, streaming applications, wearable technology/sensors, drones, robotics and smart devices, required.

Intermediate understanding of tablets, smartphones, eReaders, apps and awareness of basic app development resources, required.

Familiarity with the basic principles of HTML, PHP, Ruby, Python, JavaScript, and CSS, preferred.

Knowledge of informational databases, preferred.

Intermediate understanding of Internet security and privacy issues.

Intermediate skills in Sierra, preferred.

Ability to successfully work with varying demographics, required. Ability to travel to other work/library locations, required.

Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun.

Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available, required.

Established in 1966, the Arapahoe Library District serves more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, including mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
