Job Description

Summary:  Provides excellent customer service while assisting patrons in the use of public internet stations, Xerox machines, 3D Printing, audiovisual equipment, and study rooms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Demonstrates a professional, positive, cooperative, flexible, team-oriented working relationship with staff, co-workers, and volunteers.
  • Creates positive experiences for library patrons by effectively and efficiently performing job tasks; presents a positive image of the library in attitude, communications, and appearance while performing duties in both the public and staff areas.
  • Performs circulation duties that include contact with patrons such as registration and renewal of patrons’ accounts, and checking library materials in and out.
  • Provides exceptional customer service by making patrons the first priority and effectively and efficiently performing job tasks.
  • Provides accurate informational and directional assistance to patron inquiries.
  • Assists patrons using public internet stations.
  • Assists patrons in locating library materials utilizing Public Access Catalog (OPAC).
  • Assists patrons in the use of Xerox machines, including copying, scanning, emailing, faxing, and wireless printing.
  • Assists patrons with 3D printing jobs.
  • Proficiently handles opening and closing duties of the computer lab and 3D printer.
  • Proactively learns about new technologies, particularly those offered as a library service.
  • Stays current on Poudre River Public Library District policies, processes, procedures, and technologies required to perform work duties.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities include the following:

  • Skill in customer service including dealing with difficult patrons and volatile situations.
  • Able to work effectively with many diverse populations including people experiencing homelessness.
  • Able to stay calm under pressure.
  • Able to show patience and maintain professionalism when working with challenging patrons.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), internet navigation, and social media outlets.
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Able to communicate effectively in person, via telephone, and in writing.
  • Able to work with limited supervision and to exercise independent judgment as required.
  • Able to multi-task while working with interruptions.

Education and Experience:

Minimum age of 18 with high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.  Experience working in a library, retail environment, or computer-related field preferred. 

Language Abilities: 

Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.  Fluency in English is required.  Fluency in Spanish or other language is desirable.

Reasoning Abilities: 

Able to apply common sense and logical thinking to in order to form a conclusion or judgement.   Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Work Environment: Work is performed indoors in a standard library environment. The Computer Lab Monitor is required to work a variety of schedule hours including days, nights, and weekends.

Physical Demands:  The Computer Lab monitor is regularly required to sit and stand for long periods of time, stoop, bend, reach, carry, push, and pull. They must be able to lift weights up to 20 lbs. They must have manual dexterity to operate a computer and grasp books. They must have correctable vision to read the computer screen and locate books on shelves. They must be able to perform the various tasks of the job, which require continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and wrist movement.
