Job Description

Arapahoe Libraries is seeking a Senior Services Librarian who is passionate about enriching the lives and resources of the growing community of seniors in our district. Finding solutions, helping patrons navigate and download e-content while providing much needed advisory services is what we look for and what inspires your work!

Location:  Various Arapahoe Library District locations, as needed.

Reports to:  Mobile Library Services Supervisor

Supervises:  0

Position: Full-time, exempt

Pay Rate:  $47,476-$53,550

Role: Promotes the Library District's presence of senior-specific services by building relationships, providing library services at remote locations, and providing senior services content for the website.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

35% CUSTOMER RELATIONS

Provides outstanding and personalized service by greeting patrons, uses advanced readers' advisory skills to assist patrons with accessing information, services, and resources; locates materials, and conducts outreach activities in order to enhance the patron's enjoyment and usage of library services. Provides literacy-based programming related to current senior issues including dementia. As needed, provides library service at assisted living facilities in the community, home delivery, books by mail and deposit collection services to patrons and facilities throughout the community. Works with volunteers to ensure materials are delivered to patrons who are unable to visit the library.  Leads book clubs and book talks.

35% COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Identifies senior resources in the community, attends senior service meetings in Arapahoe County, and builds and maintains relationships in order to promote senior services for the Library District.  Works with senior facilities to provide relevant library-related programming and services. Works with the Programming Department to collaborate on senior-specific programming for the District.

10% COLLECTION MERCHANDISING AND MAINTENANCE

Maintains the collection display at service sites by loading and unloading carts and boxes, maintaining assigned area of the collection, setting up materials and rotating materials on carts in order to promote, attract and make the collection accessible to patrons.

10% DRIVING AND VEHICLE MAINTENANCE Drives Library District mobile library service vehicles to service sites by fueling appropriate vehicles, checking for safety and serviceability, maintaining surface appearance, completing inspection check lists, safely operating the vehicle and observing traffic regulations in order to park the vehicle at assigned times and locations.

10% CONTENT PROVIDER

Submits monthly content for the website of interest to older adults and those who serve older adults. Other content submissions can include staff picks or other means of communication relevant to senior services.

Qualifications:

Two years of similar or related experience, required.

MLS or MLIS degree, required.

Gerontology experience preferred; knowledge of senior resources preferred.

Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, required.

Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record, required.

Ability to attend meetings, present and network in the Arapahoe County senior-services community, required.

Experience with developing and conducting instructional programs and services.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly.

Evidence of ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a changing environment. 

Experience with grant-writing, preferred.

Experience in public service, including the ability to interact effectively with patrons and staff. 

Advanced technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook, required.

Intermediate skills in Sierra, preferred.

Ability to demonstrate knowledge of library and information science theory, information creation, organization, and delivery as it applies to the Arapahoe Library District.

Ability to exhibit leadership skills including critical thinking, active listening, risk taking, and creativity, regardless of position within the organization structure.

Ability to exhibit an understanding of the importance of a multidisciplinary and cross-functional approach to programs and projects within the organization.

Ability to communicate openly, directly, clearly and respectfully with customers and colleagues to advance the interests of the library.

Ability to comfortably present information in a clear and engaging manner in dealing with customers and colleagues one-on-one or in groups, in both formal and informal settings.

Ability to be mobile 100% of the time and sit as needed; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds, 10% of the time, required.

Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun.

Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.

Ability to successfully work with varying demographics, required.
