Job Description

The Librarian and Academic Technology Specialist works with the other librarians to staff the two learning commons, maintain the print and digital book collection and research databases.  S/he should also enhance the learning commons’ culture of active learning by supporting individuals and classrooms in excellence in their academic work. S/he will also participate in other relevant technology projects, trainings, and meetings as a member of the Information and Innovation Team and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Libraries and Academic Technology or the Chief Information and Innovation Officer. Responsibilities listed below will be divided among the library and academic technology staff.

Duncan Center & Centennial Learning Commons

  • Maintain the two learning commons as welcoming spaces for students and faculty, providing opportunities for studying, collaboration, and instruction
  • Provide one-on-one research help and academic assistance to students in the two learning commons
  • Stay current on trends and research in school libraries and learning commons
  • Assist students and teachers in troubleshooting technology and printing problems
  • Create signage (digital and print) and displays

Library Collection

  • Teach students and faculty information literacy skills
  • Collaborate with teachers on planning research projects
  • Develop and manage the library’s print and online collection
  • Create and curate content for our library web presence
  • Collect statistics on database usage and circulation
  • Remain current in Young Adult and Adult literature in order to provide book recommendations to promote a culture of reading among students and faculty
  • Assist teachers and students with finding and checking out library resources
  • Shelve library materials
  • Assist with clerical functions including paying invoices, filling out purchase orders, etc.

Academic Technology

  • Provide faculty and students with training and ongoing support for Kent Denver’s Learning Management System (currently Canvas)
  • Collaborate with teachers on planning and implementing projects that integrate technology
  • Stay current on trends and research in academic technology
  • Provide support to Kent Denver families about students’ appropriate use of technology

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or higher required. Master’s degree in Library, Information Studies, or related field strongly preferred
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems and Google Apps
  • Previous work in a library and/or school environment, preferably with teenagers, is required
  • Must be personable and friendly with students and teachers
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems
  • Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects, task, and requests

Employment

  • 40-50 hours per week
  • Salary Range: $48,000-$60,000 based on experience
  • Benefits include health, retirement and dental
  • 4 weeks paid vacation with 1 additional week vacation over spring break and 1 additional week vacation over winter break
