Job Description

Nature of Work: This position is located in the University Libraries and exists to supervise the Copy Cataloging Unit in the Cataloging and Metadata Services Department; to set unit priorities, workflow, and division of tasks; to assign ongoing and project work; to design and implement copy cataloging procedures in accordance with the policies of the department and the procedures of the Monographic Cataloging Team; to develop training materials for all copy cataloging for the Monographic Cataloging Team, including training for the changes in cataloging software (OCLC's Connexion and Innovative Interfaces' Millenium software); to hire and evaluate personnel; to coordinate the unit's work with other units in the department and with other departments in the Libraries; to solve cataloging problems; and to perform original and complex copy cataloging in a variety of formats.

Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree; two years of full-time (or equivalent) original cataloging experience, using MARC formats, AACR2 and Library of Congress (LC) Rule interpretations, LC Classification, and LC Subject Headings; experience cataloging on OCLC and in an integrated library system; knowledge of at least one non-English European language; AND two years of supervisory experience. Necessary Special Requirements: Note: The University of Colorado at Boulder is committed to providing a safe and productive learning and living community. Highly Desirable Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of Innovative Interfaces Millenium, OCLC Connexion software, as well as experience creating name authority records. Experience supervising the work of cataloging staff is highly desired. Substitution: A combination of work experience in the occupational field or specialized subject area of the work assigned to the job, which provided the same kind, amount and level of knowledge acquired in the required education, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the bachelor’s degree. A master’s or doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study related to the work assignment may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree and one or two years of original cataloging experience respectively, but NOT for the specific experience cataloging on OCLC and an integrated library system, knowledge of at least one non-English European language, and the two years of supervisory experience.
