Job Description

(Limited Term Position) Date Posted: November 30, 2007 Application Deadline: Open Until Filled Location: Central Library, Western History & Genealogy Department14th & Broadway Status/Schedule: Limited term, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include evening and weekend hours. This is a fully benefited temporary position that will end on October 1, 2010 with potential for longer employment. Salary Range: $23.34 - $27.88 per hour starting salary range; $23.34 - $37.24 per hour full salary range. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered. Duties and Responsibilities: Recommends and develops procedures and standards for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grant project “Creating Communities: Digitizing Denver’s Neighborhoods.” Modifies and achieves grant objectives through feedback from partnering institutions, library staff, and members of the Denver community. Develops budgets, controls expenditures and develops procedures for responsible use of resources. Ensures that the grant operates in compliance with IMLS and Library guidelines and policies. Meets with community groups, service providers, institutional partners and staff to solicit input regarding the program’s direction. Prepares grant reports and public information. Hires, trains and supervises staff. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the history of Denver neighborhoods. Knowledge of archival practices, budget preparation, and project management. Working knowledge of on-line information retrieval and scanning technology. Strong leadership skills and ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships. Ability to supervise a variety of positions. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work with a diverse group of people. Ability to thrive working in an environment with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Experience: Two years of professional library experience.
