Job Description

Responsibilities Circulation Department •Oversee policies and procedures for the circulation and interlibrary loan departments. •Work with supervisors to implement procedures that support library policy. oAssist on a weekly basis with front desk activity. oCoordinate supervisor coverage and provide backup of supervisor duties when necessary during vacation and sick time. oBe available to provide significant assistance during school start, midterms and finals. oTroubleshoot human resource problems. •Prepare three staff and assist with 20+ student evaluations semi-annually. •Compile statistical circulation data, completing reports as needed. •Oversee circulation module parameters using library system software (Innovative Interfaces Inc.). •Oversee, stay current, and implement improvements with all software and duties related to the circulation and reserve activities. Assist with reserve processing when needed. •Troubleshoot problems with computers and software in the department. •Responsible for Circulation Department budget. •Responsible for departmental Web pages and updates. •Participate on the Budget Team and Library Council as a representative for the Circulation and Interlibrary loan. •Organize and facilitate weekly Circulation department meetings. •Hire new staff when necessary. •Participate in conferences/workshops to keep updated on developments and issues relevant to circulation and access to materials. •Represent Reed Library on the State Prospector Document Delivery Committee. •Troubleshoot problems related to the routine operation of the Prospector system with the Prospector supervisor. •Assist or coordinate backup for daily Prospector processing when students and supervisor are not present. Interlibrary Loan •Oversee activities of the Interlibrary Loan supervisor in operations of the department, providing supervision and semi-annual evaluation. •Assist ILL supervisor with software troubleshooting. •Coordinate staff coverage of department when needed. Stacks Maintenance •Coordinate with Librarians on weeding and acquisitions projects. •Coordinate with Periodicals Department on collection changes. •Work with Stacks Maintenance Supervisor shifting projects. Instruction •Participate in the library’s integrated library research program. •Provide reference services both at the library’s reference desk and by appointment. General and Faculty Responsibilities •Participate in library governance via the Librarian’s Council. •Actively participate in scholarly/ professional activities appropriate to librarianship and campus and community service involvement to meet tenure requirements. •Academic advising for approximately 20-25 students. •Pursue professional growth and development.

Overview The Access Services Librarian is a twelve-month tenure-track position, at the rank of assistant professor, responsible for the coordination of the charging, shelving and maintaining of the Library’s circulating collection; organizing, housing and circulating reserve materials; and processing all materials to/from other libraries through Prospector, a state-wide consortium of libraries. This position also serves as the copyright compliance officer for Reed Library and participates in the campus effort to define institutional intellectual rights policy. In addition to the Circulation Department duties, this position requires a maximum of 9 hours of reference desk duties per week. Teaching responsibilities include participation in integrated library instruction. As liaisons to two or more academic departments, librarians are responsible for collection development and bibliographic instruction in their areas. The Access Services Librarian participates in the library governance structure as a member of the Librarian’s Council and the Budget Team. In addition to teaching and librarianship, scholarly/ professional activities and campus/ community service are required for meeting expectations for tenure. Required Qualifications M.L.S from an ALA accredited institution. Experience in one or more library areas: circulation, interlibrary loan, and instruction. Experience with integrated library systems and/or consortial borrowing system. Two years of supervisory experience in library or educational setting. Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience providing reference service and/or library instruction. Familiarity with Innovative Interfaces Inc (III).
