Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison librarian to all education departments; liaison activities include:
    • Build and maintain close relations with students and faculty
    • Support the student and faculty learning, teaching and research needs
    • Integrate information literacy and instruction into programs and courses
    • Communicate information about library services, resources and spaces to students and faculty
    • Participate in development and management of the Kent Library’s children’s and young adult collections
  • Support student learning and faculty teaching through instruction sessions, workshops, web-based guides, online tutorials, targeted reference services and individual and group research consultations
  • Create effective digital learning materials; such as LibGuidesTM and video tutorials
  • Provide and support effective information literacy instruction for the University’s core curriculum and other academic disciplines as needed
  • Participate in development of Kent Library’s children’s and young adult collections
  • Collaborate with Cataloging and Access Services staff on children’s and young adult collection organization and management
  • Provide research assistance in-person, online, or by telephone and share in the chat and reference desk staffing rotation; may include some nights and weekends
  • Work closely with faculty and students across the University; interactions may be face-to-face, virtual, online or at the regional campuses
  • Serve as liaison librarian to other academic departments as assigned
  • Participate in the overall development, management and assessment of library services and collections
  • Contribute to Kent Library and library unit committees, activities, and outreach, and to Southeast Missouri State University through faculty governance, committees, councils, and other working groups
  • Establish and maintain a personal professional development program consistent with promotion, tenure, and post-professorial review

Required Qualifications

  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree; additional Education degree or background a plus
  • Experience with planning, delivering, and assessing information literacy education
  • Experience with the creation of digital learning materials
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty and a diverse student body throughout the University
  • Knowledge of a wide range of electronic and print information resources
  • Strong service orientation and flexibility
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work well as a member of a group and individually
  • Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community
  • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
