The AAC Library is looking for a Librarian with a wide range of skills and abilities. This is a multi-faceted professional position, and the successful candidate will be responsible for running most of the Library’s day-to-day operations, including greeting patrons, answering phones, answering reference questions, managing collection development, directing and overseeing the activities of a library clerk and volunteers, leading library tours, downloading catalog records from OCLC, and other duties as assigned. Required • Excellent customer service skills • Interest in technology • Available to work Tuesday and Thursday 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM, and Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the Internet • Comfortable with interruptions throughout the workday • Ability to lift 30 lbs. Preferred • Reference experience • Interest in or familiarity with mountaineering and climbing

The Community

The American Alpine Club was founded in 1902 and is the country’s premier climbing organization. The AAC Library is the world’s second largest mountaineering library with over 28,000 volumes, more than 200 journal titles, videos, maps, and an extensive rare book collection and archive. The Library also manages the collection for the Colorado Mountain Club. The Library is open to the public; circulation is limited to Club and Friends of the Library members. Upcoming changes for the AAC Library include: cooperation with The Bradford Washburn Mountaineering Museum when the museum opens in February 2008, and an addition of a special collection of 30,000 volumes by mid-2008.
