Job Description

Are you excited about the new and emerging technologies? Would you enjoy developing programs in multimedia advisory and technology? We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Multimedia Librarian to join our expert team! The ideal candidate will have a track record of success and a passion to run with the best, assisting patrons with advanced search needs in all areas. As a Multimedia Librarian, you'll be excited to provide advanced help in our Studio spaces and have a passion for recommending movies and music to patrons in all formats. You will have a strong initiative and consider yourself a self-starter. You thrive on meeting patrons and helping them with a variety of topics from research to e-readers.

Position: Full-time, exempt position. Ability to work evenings and weekends, required.

Pay:  $47,476 - $53,550

Role: Assists patrons with advanced search needs in all areas, with special emphasis on media, develops and conducts programming related to digital technologies.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

30% Advanced Search Assistance - Conducts patron interviews, employs search strategies, provides advanced reference and advisory services, and recommends resources in order to satisfy patron requests of an advanced nature. 

30% Service Development - Identifying, evaluating and implementing the use of new and current technologies to improve information access to support the library's mission. Implements and manages digital technologies (e.g. podcasting, digital recording, and conversion projects), develops programs around digital technologies and assists with awareness of multimedia resources for patrons and staff.

20% Staff Training and Branch Liaison: Develops trainings to improve the knowledge, skill and ability of paraprofessional staff. Provides informal mentoring to branch staff by participating in staff meetings and outreaching to staff to reinforce information received at the formal training.

10% Web content: Creates web content using Bibliocommons platform, participates in maintaining Creative Spaces page on ALD website.  

 10% Professional Development: Advances professional knowledge and networking through attending and presenting at professional conferences and publishing in professional journals.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum of two years of similar or related experience, required.

MLS or MLIS degree, required.

Intermediate knowledge and experience in music, video and digital multimedia.

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly.

Evidence of ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a changing environment.

Familiarity with copyright law and licensing issues as they pertain to video and sound recordings.

Experience with grant-writing, preferred.

Experience in public service, including the ability to interact effectively with patrons and staff.

Advanced technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook, required.

Intermediate skills in Sierra, preferred.

Ability to travel to other work/library locations, as needed, required.

Ability to be mobile 100% of the time and sit as needed; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds, 10% of the time, required.

Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, required.

Ability to demonstrate knowledge of library and information science theory, information creation, organization, and delivery as it applies to the Arapahoe Library District. 

Ability to exhibit leadership skills including critical thinking, active listening, risk taking, and creativity, regardless of position within the organization structure.

Ability to exhibit an understanding of the importance of a multidisciplinary and cross-functional approach to programs and projects within the organization.

Ability to communicate openly, directly, clearly and respectfully with customers and colleagues to advance the interests of the library.

Ability to comfortably present information in a clear and engaging manner in dealing with customers and colleagues one-on-one or in groups, in formal and informal settings.

Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun.

Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.

Ability to successfully work with varying demographics, required.
