Job Description

Prescott College is searching for our next, Director of Library Services. This position is responsible for manifesting and driving the Prescott College mission of interdisciplinary and experiential learning for social justice and environmental sustainability.  This is completed, in part, through the library and other academic support services that are provided to students and faculty through are on-campus and online bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs.  The Director plans, organizes, and provides oversight for the college library and technological systems, electronic holdings, Learning Commons, and other academic support services comprising the Information Commons. 

The Director, additionally, leads planning efforts to re-imagine the use of the library building and physical and virtual spaces to maximize student engagement and success.  The successful candidate will represent library interests on campus and within the Yavapai Library Network and other appropriate consortia.  The Director of Library Services must possess a “hands-on” approach, as well as being an engaged leader, with the understanding and skill to supervise a collaborative and diverse team of students, staff, and faculty library professionals.

This position requires a candidate that can demonstrate experience developing a broad, long-term and successful application of their vision and the necessary skill to communicate effectively, this vision to the Prescott College Community. The successful candidate must be able to articulate a collaborative, professional, inclusive and efficient approach while working with faculty, staff, and students all across Prescott College.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Promotes and develops the library mission as a teaching and research library for successful learning for diverse faculty and students from all programs.
  • Plans, administers, and evaluates the functions/services of the library.
  • Forms long-range and short-term strategic plans and objectives tied directly to assessment/evaluation data and the College’s strategic plan.
  • Oversees reference and public services, technical services, acquisition, cataloging and processing, serials, media, and electronic databases.
  • Attends staff, directors, faculty and other meetings as appropriate.
  • Serves on various campus committees.
  • Supervises the integration of library and academic support services housed within the library into curricula of all programs and deliveries; enhances usage by constituencies and improves student learning and success.
  • Responsible for the administration of the Library and Learning Commons web pages.
  • Assures development and scheduling of research and library skills classes.
  • Develops, modifies and properly implements, policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates development and maintenance of physical and electronic holdings.
  • Monitors maintenance and use of the physical and electronic collection.
  • Collaborates with faculty and students to determine additions to the collection.
  • Directs circulation, reference, and other library resources and services.
  • Accountable for organizing and supervising staffing and work assignments for library operations.
  • Develops, disseminates and enforces policies for circulation, systems, collections, and other library physical or electronic resources and services.
  • Skillfully directs and conducts annual book and magazine inventories
  • Develops, implements and ensures, through training, feedback and other means, of a high standard of customer service.
  • Collects and analyzes data to inform decision-making.
  • Proposes and administers department budget.
  • Retrieves required data to prepare and create annual department budget.
  • Manages the library’s budget and vendors to achieve College goals.
  • Plans for library facilities, space management, and technology needs.
  • Seeks outside funding sources to supplement budgets and fund new projects.
  • Responsible for the supervision, development, and morale of staff.
  • Recruits, retains, trains, and evaluates the performance of a diverse staff and student body.
  • Facilitates effective employee relations (e.g., teamwork, conflict resolution).
  • Plans and coordinates training development opportunities for staff and faculty.
  • Manage inter-departmental integration and process improvement processes.
  • Assures integration of relevant technological systems, databases, and associated processes/workflows for usability, efficiency and effectiveness/
  • Maintain and enhance library public relations.
  • Maintains a presence in the community through networks and associations.
  • Serves on the Management Council of the Yavapai Library Network.
  • Develops and maintains effective communications within the College; Attends and contributes as appropriate at meetings across the College.

  • Seeks innovative ways to deliver library and information services efficiently and effectively to meet changing constituent needs.
