Job Description

Dawson, a K-12 independent school of 520 students located east of Boulder on a beautiful 112-acre campus, seeks a Coordinator of Information Literacy to create dynamic experiences for our students in the Learning Commons. Dawson is a growing and passionate educational community dedicated to the healthy development and education of all of its students. The Information Literacy Specialist is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the Learning commons, including information areas, the print and digital book collection, periodicals, and research databases. They are also responsible for supporting individual and classroom learning, fostering media literacy, digital citizenship, resource acquisition, research skills, study skills, and educational technology. This position reports to the Director of Information Technology and Director of Innovation. Compensation is competitive.

 

Professional and Personal Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Educational Technology or Library and Information Science or equivalent.
  • Experience with education technology integration, learning management systems, and Google G Suite.
  • Previous work in a library and/or school environment.
  • A natural leader who enjoys engaging with people, both in large groups and one-on-one.
  • A teacher with a growth mindset who enjoys taking on new challenges and who is enthusiastic about promoting lifelong learning.
  • A team player who actively seeks collaborative opportunities across grade levels and disciplines.
  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic who anticipates the needs of the space and the people using the Learning Commons.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with Director of Information Technology and Director of Innovation to provide vision and direction for the Learning Commons, creating an inviting space for students and faculty to engage with and explore a wide variety of resources and materials.
  • Develop and maintain the print and online collection of the Learning Commons, as well as the Learning Commons’ online presence.
  • Develop and conduct programs, presentations, and workshops and create participatory experiences for the community.
  • Provide one-on-one research and educational technology help as well as general academic assistance to students and teachers.
  • Stay current on trends and research in school Learning Commons.
  • Provide training for faculty and students to use the Learning Commons’ resources effectively.
  • Assist faculty in choosing resources for use with their classes that meet the needs of their students and the devices students are using to access those resources.
  • Provide support for students and faculty with technology use, including photo manipulation, video editing, collaborative document creation, and digital publishing.
  • Collaborate with teachers on planning and implementing projects and activities that integrate information literacy, including digital and print research, copyright issues, citation techniques, and digital citizenship.
  • Encourage a culture of reading among students and faculty by remaining current in young adult and adult literature and creating enthusiasm around reading.
  • Participation in class trips and Winterim as an Upper School Faculty member.
  • One additional co-curricular responsibility, which may include directing the digital literary magazine, coordinating the community service program, or leading a similar initiative.
