Are you passionate about libraries and providing VIP service to children? The Arapahoe Library District is looking for a Youth Services Librarian to join the expert team of information professionals in our progressive library system. The ideal candidate is comfortable providing services for all ages, and specializes in ages 5-12, including programs, readers advisory, school visits, staff training, educator collaboration, and collection development. The Youth Services librarian makes frequent contact with the general public, area schools, local youth organizations, and diverse community groups.

Position: 40 hours, full-time, exempt position. Ability to work evenings and weekends, required.
Pay Rate: Starting at $47,476
Role: Assists patrons with advanced search needs and develops library programs and services for all patrons, specializing in youth services.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
20% Advisory Services - Conducts patron interviews, employs search strategies, provides advanced reference and advisory services, and recommends resources in order to satisfy patron requests of an advanced nature.
20% Outreach/Partnerships - Provides outreach and facilitates partnerships with schools and youth organizations.
20% Programming - Develops, coordinates, and facilitates a variety of youth programs. Collaborates across departments in program development and promotion.
20% Staff Training and Branch Liaison - Develops trainings to improve the knowledge, skill and ability of paraprofessional staff. Provides informal mentoring to branch staff by participating in staff meetings and outreaching to staff to reinforce information received at formal trainings.
10% Web content: Creates web content using Bibliocommons platform, participates in maintaining Creative Spaces page on ALD website.
10% Professional Development: Advances professional knowledge and networking through attending and presenting at professional conferences and publishing in professional journals.
Qualifications:
Two years of related experience, required. MLS or MLIS degree, required. Ability to travel to other work/library locations, as needed, required.
Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, required.
Intermediate knowledge and experience in youth library services.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly.
Evidence of ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a changing environment.
Experience with grant-writing, preferred.
Experience in public service, including the ability to interact effectively with patrons and staff.
Advanced technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook, required.
Intermediate skills in Sierra, preferred.
Ability to be mobile 100% of the time and sit as needed; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book cart weighing up to 100 pounds, 10% of the time, required.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of library and information science theory, information creation, organization, and delivery as it applies to the Arapahoe Library District.
Ability to exhibit leadership skills including critical thinking, active listening, risk taking, and creativity, regardless of position within the organization structure.
Ability to exhibit an understanding of the importance of a multidisciplinary and cross-functional approach to programs and projects within the organization.
Ability to communicate openly, directly, clearly and respectfully with customers and colleagues to advance the interests of the library.
Ability to comfortably present information in a clear and engaging manner in dealing with customers and colleagues one-on-one or in groups, in both formal and informal settings.
Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun.
Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.
Ability to successfully work with varying demographics, required.

Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, including mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
