Job Description

Perform copy and some original cataloging in accordance with national standards as well as local and consortial practices. Review and match the correct MARC bibliographic records from SkyRiver, Sierra, and other online sources with the item in hand; select classification numbers (Dewey decimal classification or local classification) appropriate to the item; create bibliographic records using MARC format and templates; verify author and subject headings; edit records by adding or deleting information to meet library requirements; create item records; check-in materials; stamp, apply barcodes, and perform other processing tasks as required. Create spine labels and prepare items for processing; perform final check for items before they are placed on the shelf. Train and supervise volunteers in processing and repair procedures. Cross-trained to cover public service desks as well as supporting Cataloging and Acquisitions work.

Library Unit Description:

In coordination with other library units, implement all aspects of the library collection both physical and digital, from selection, acquisition, cataloging (copy cataloging, original cataloging and catalog maintenance) and processing to merchandising and discovery, inventory, weeding and discarding. Ensure that quality control measures are initiated to preserve accuracy of data. Manage collection accessibility via support of the integrated library system (ILS). Maintain compelling and patron-centered digital presence through the website. Assess new needs in collection management and supporting technology. Train and supervising volunteers. May be assigned primary responsibility in one or more of the above areas.

Additional Info & Requirements

Previous library or related experience preferred in assigned area. The Librarian I assigned to Collection and Technology Services requires a minimum one year demonstrated experience or coursework in cataloging.

Hours are typically Monday - Friday between 8:30 am to 5:30 pm to include one evening per week scheduled until 9 pm and one Saturday per month.  Additional hours as required.
