Job Description

CU Boulder Libraries welcomes applications for an Evening & Weekend Assistant Circulation Supervisor to assist with supervision and training of branch student employees during evening and weekend hours. This role will respond to patron queries in person and on the phone as well as via department email to resolve patron difficulties, provide circulation and general basic reference services to patrons, and to serve as liaison between branch and libraries Security during evening and weekend hours.

 

What your key responsibilities will be:

Patron Services

  • Provide resource access, general reference, and information services to patrons through the use of library systems and other available resources.
  • Monitor and evaluate current services, procedures, practices and documentation for improvement.
  • Assists patrons with access to library resources through account registrations. Responds to patron questions and difficulties regarding missing, damaged, claimed returned or overdue materials.
  • Initiates solutions to patron difficulties. Explains Libraries policies regarding overdue fines, billing fees, replacement fees, and replacement policies, and provides options to resolve difficulties.

Materials Processing and Handling

  • Assist Collection Specialist with materials processing and handling through appropriate routing of returned or requested materials to sorting areas for re-shelving, branch library delivery/receiving sorting area, external lenders sorting areas, or preservation assessment as needed.]
  • Maintains holdshelves, reserve collection, CD/DVD collection as needed.

Service Point and Security Liaison

  • Serves as contact person for branch libraries for access questions and difficulties during evening/weekend hours.
  • Coordinates with Libraries Security staff in providing support for security for library facilities during evening/weekend hours.

Project Support

  • Assisting with space and user experience data collection, weeding projects, special events, student trainings, space maintenance, and other projects identified in collaboration with the position supervisor.

What you should know:

  • We will be filling two positions, one in our L.H. Gemmill Engineering, Math, and Physics Library and one in our William M. White Business Library, at the rank of Library Tech I.
  • This position will work Sunday through Thursday from 2:00 P.M. – 11:00 P.M. during the academic year.
  • Summer and Holiday hours may vary based on Library hours.

Qualifications

What we require:

  • Must be a resident of Colorado to be considered for this.
  • One year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

What you will need:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Highly personable and customer service-oriented approach.

What we’d like you to have:

  • Six months of supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Familiarity with the Library of Congress Classification system.
  • Experience with Circulation Software and/or an Integrated Library System.

Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
