Job Description

Monthly Pay Range: $3,184 - $3,978. In addition, the City offers a monthly benefit allowance of $1,072.

The Position

The City of Arcadia is currently seeking a responsible, customer service-oriented Library Technician I to perform a full range of general clerical and administrative functions for Account Services. Under immediate supervision, the Library Technician I will:

  • Operate the Account Services desk; registers patrons for library cards; checks materials in and out; retrieves and checks-in library materials and collects fines and fees.
  • Answer directional and basic informational questions at the public service desk.
  • Explain and demonstrate library policies, procedures and facilities to patrons.
  • Type, sort, duplicate, and file documents and other materials.
  • Maintain a variety of records.
  • Operate a variety of office machines including computers, laminator, cash registers, and copiers.
  • Assist patrons with the operation of computers and other equipment.
  • Design and create flyers, posters, and a wide variety of program support materials; and performs other duties as assigned.
  • In Technical Services, this position processes new books, magazines, paperbacks, and other materials; adds new materials to the library database; and deletes old, outdated, or damaged material from collection.
  • In Children’s Services, this position provides para-professional customer service at the public desk; assists in designing, planning, and presenting a variety of age-appropriate specialty programs including literature presentations, story times, crafts, displays, games, and other activities

While the current opening is in Account Services, the eligibility list created from this recruitment may be used to fill full-time or permanent part-time vacancies in Children or Technical Services within the next 12 months.

The Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed and those candidates whose applications indicate they have met the requirements will be further considered to continue in the recruitment process. The selection process may consist of: Application Evaluation (Qualifying); and Oral Interview (100%). The City reserves the right to limit the number of interviews conducted. The interview score determines the ranking on the eligibility list. A pre-employment background and medical examination are additional requirements for hire. Experience: Some experience working in a library is desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with social media outlets is highly desirable.

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Skill to: Ability to type 35 words per minute net and enter data at a speed necessary for successful job performance. Candidates must submit a copy of a certified typing certificate, obtained within the last 12 months from the date the application is submitted, to demonstrate they meet the minimum typing requirement.

Special Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, and lift, carry, push, and pull 20-30 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodations.
