Job Description

The Manager of Library Technical Systems will be responsible for product development strategy and implementation of the Integrated Library System, the ETLS website and related products and processes that facilitate access to and 21st century skills/experiences for our students through library services' resources such as school library print books, eBooks, databases, OER, central Library Services collections and curriculum fulfillment.  Lead the Library Services Technical Team by modeling excellent customer service, setting clear expectations, minimizing roadblocks, prioritizing appropriate workflows and managing workloads. Align people and resources to achieve results related to Library Services' vision and mission.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates a personal commitment to change management practices, continuous improvement and customer service as measured by team's LIFT performance, workgroup performance statistics and customer service feedback

  • Sets clear, measurable, annual team goals aligned to department and district strategic plan. Follows research and industry trends in libraries, learning and technology with team in order to recommend and implement enhancements to the library system and library technical services.

  • Delivers results through effectively designing and managing workflow and resources of the team, including the Client Technologies Specialist, Web Developer, Library Technologists and Textbook Coordinator. Leads professional learning and marketing efforts to ensure educational community leverages technical services to engage students and positively impact their achievement and college/career readiness.  Serve as a cataloging resource and perform cataloging duties as needed.

  • Improves team performance through coaching, formal and informal feedback and evaluation cycles, training and stretch opportunities.     Builds a high performing team that demonstrates common purpose, achievement of goals and mutual accountability including interviewing, hiring, and training as needed.  Empowers and enables direct reports to work at their level.   Demonstrates visbility, optimism and accessibility to team members.

  • Designs and manages technical services to promote and ensure equity for all students, teachers, staff and families.  Communicates effectively in order to build collaborative, productive relationships with vendors, across ETLS, central departments (especially our Department of Technical Services), schools, staff, and community partners that move forward department and district goals.

  • Working knowledge of US MARC, AACR2, RDA, LC Subject Headings, Dewey Decimal classification and original cataloging, including experience in non-English materials.
  • Has an understanding and appreciation for diversity.
  • Strong understanding and experience using Google Apps, Chrome Apps and browsers, and other web 2.0 software applications.
  • Thorough knowledge of online integrated library systems (preferably school library systems), bibliographic utilities (OCLC), databases, eBooks (especially Overdrive) and networks.
