Job Description

Stillwater is located in north-central Oklahoma centered between Wichita, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa. This vibrant, growing community of near 50,000 is a regional hub for higher education, health care, and technology. The City operates under a council-manager form of government. The city council, comprised of a mayor and four council members, appoints a city manager to lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the organization. The Stillwater Public Library (SPL) vision as a core community service is to provide equal access to the best sources of information, current technology, quality collections, outstanding programs, and exceptional service. SPL is managed by a seven-member Library Board established by the City Charter.

The City seeks a participatory, results-oriented Library Director who is dedicated to public service, quality customer service, and continuous improvement. The Director is responsible for ensuring effective services are provided to patrons, ensuring library materials are current and accessible to patrons, and maintaining library policies and procedures. The successful candidate will possess excellent oral and written communication skills and will be an innovative manager who can work effectively in an exemplary library that provides quality service. Demonstrating and maintaining effective working relationships within the organization and with elected officials is essential.

The selected candidate must hold a master’s degree in library science or a closely related field and have five years of experience, including two years of supervisory experience, in library operations. An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills will be considered. The starting salary is up to $80,000 with performance-based growth opportunities.
