Job Description

The West Custer County Library District has an immediate opening for an energetic self-starter to join our team as Youth Services Coordinator.  This position reports to the Director and is responsible for the library’s activities and services for youth and families, ensuring that the library is offering high quality and diverse programs and materials for children of all ages.  Duties include developing, marketing and hosting youth programs (including Play to Learn, Camp Happiness, teen events, and school and community outreach), contributing to the development of the youth collections, assisting management team in attaining strategic objectives as related to youth services,  assisting patrons in library use, and other duties as assigned.  If you have a passion for children and teens, lifelong learning, and your community then this is the place for you!  A degree in library science, education, child development or similar and experience working in a library setting are preferred, however, we’re willing to train the right person.  Experience with child development is a big plus! The Community

Located south of Cañon City and west of Pueblo, Custer County has a population of approximately 4,200 people (2014) with an estimated 200-250 children age 8 and younger. Custer County is bordered by the Sangre De Cristo Mountain Range on the west and the Wet Mountains to the east. The County seat is Westcliffe, which sits at an elevation of 7,888 feet. The geography is quite rugged and very rural. Only about 800 people live in the combined towns of Westcliffe and Silver Cliff. Custer has a population density of 6 people per square mile.
