Job Description

Job Summary: Reporting to the Director for Library and Archives, the Library Resource and Technology Specialist will perform public service and technical services support while working primarily at the Paramita branch library and occasionally at the Allen Ginsberg Library. Public service includes managing patron accounts and helping students, faculty, and staff who use the library. Technical services include circulation, cataloging, collection management projects, and most importantly providing AV and technology assistance to all students, faculty, and staff at the Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology (GSCP). This position is the primary contact for all issues related to library service and library technology at the Paramita campus.

Job Duties:

  • Create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
  • Provide service at the front circulation desk, usually as the only on-duty staff member. This includes a high volume of transactions such as book and material checkout, returns, and circulation account management.
    • Provide access to specialized GSCP material, such as psychology assessments and theses.
    • Utilize the integrated library system, Koha, to search for and manage records and patron accounts.
  • Liaise with the Information Technology Department regarding all hardware and software in the library, including PC operating systems, the Microsoft Office suite, email, mobile print, and Naropa’s systems such as MyNaropa. Provide assistance to faculty and students with all of the above.
  • Provide support for library users in the computer and video labs, including frequently troubleshooting computer use, printing, and occasional classroom technology issues. Frequently and expertly answer student and faculty questions about technology. Submit IT work requests as needed when lab systems are in need of service by the IT team.
  • Manage AV equipment at the Paramita campus, including ensuring effective and efficient use of the library’s audiovisual equipment reservation system. Communicate with GSCP administrative staff regarding AV use for special events at the Paramita campus.
  • Provide basic research assistance to students and faculty, specializing in the curriculum of the Graduate School of Counseling Psychology. Train students and faculty on basic navigation of online research databases and the online library catalog, Howlcat.
  • Perform collection management projects, in consultation with colleagues, including deaccessioning and suggesting titles for replacement or purchase.
  • Catalog and describe, with excellent attention to detail, recordings to be uploaded to the University’s digital archive.
  • Assist Access Services Librarian with related duties, including prepping print course reserves and interlibrary loan requests. Scan articles and book chapters for ILL loan.
  • Support and train work study students at the circulation desk.
  • Provide positive, timely, and patient customer service. Contribute to student-centered culture in the library.
  • Act as person in charge of the library and sole staff person when scheduled.
  • Other projects assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree related to a field of study at Naropa University.
  • Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
  • High level of computer literacy in a PC environment.
  • Ability to provide patient assistance to students and faculty in use of library AV, computer lab hardware and software, and classroom technology.
  • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to ask questions to resolve complicated technology problems.
  • An understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace.
  • Commitment to co-create an inclusive community and actively participate in related professional development, including openness to feedback and on-going self-examination.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Psychology and Counseling practice and scholarship.
  • At least one year of circulation and/or reference experience in an academic library.
  • Experience with transcription or library cataloging practices.
  • Knowledge of ADA and copyright law.
