Job Description

The Learning & Research Services Department (LRS) at the MSU Bozeman Library is searching for its next circulation manager. Dubbed the LRS Program Manager, the person in the role will provide supervision, management, and leadership to a team of seven classified staff and a cadre of student employees, and will also work closely with the department head and the other tenure and non-tenure track librarians in the department. In particular, we are seeking an individual with ILS experience, particularly with the Alma unified resource management system, but experience in another system plus ability to quickly pick up Alma will work as well.

This is a classified, non-exempt, staff position. As such, it is exempt from collective bargaining.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Increasingly progressive supervisory experience.
  • Increasingly progressive experience working in a library.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Windows operating systems and common desktop software.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience working in an academic library.
  • Experience using the library’s URM (Unified Resource Management) platform, Alma, OR demonstrated experience using a different URM and ability to quickly become facile with the Fulfillment portions of Alma, OR demonstrated experience with backend set-up and maintenance of another cloud-based management system and the ability to quickly become facile with the Fulfillment portions of Alma.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of effective library practices including but not limited to integrated library systems and other library technologies, course reserves, circulation practices, and metrics.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying leadership, management, and interpersonal techniques that encourage teamwork.

The Community

The MSU Library offers research and information resources to the institution’s students and faculty, as well as serving Montana citizens and the State’s business community. It has a full range of library collections and services for students and faculty, including over 140 public computer workstations, printers, scanners, technology-rich group study rooms, and quiet study areas. Knowledgeable and friendly professional librarians and staff provide assistance using the collections, access to online information resources, and instruction for individuals and groups. The MSU Library’s collections support teaching, learning, and research at MSU, with particular emphasis in the fields of agriculture, science, health, and technology. The Library holds special collections in the areas of Montana agriculture and ranching, Yellowstone National Park and its ecosystem, Montana history, and trout and salmonid fish. The MSU Library has a staff of approximately 55 FTE, including 20 faculty librarians.
