Job Description

What You'd Do

Create lifelong library customers by providing exceptional customer service for customers of all ages and backgrounds. Provide readers advisory, reference assistance and children's programming, while focusing on creating a positive customer experience. Design engaging displays and participate in merchandising of the entire collection. Participate in community outreach and collection maintenance activities. Communicate effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, staff and administration.

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers are typically made within the starting salary range and depend on qualifications. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

The schedule will be determined by the needs of the branch and will include evening and weekend hours.

You Have

Knowledge and experience with developing and presenting story times for young children, as well as programming for school-age children and teens. Skill in using and assisting customers with technology. Skill in eye-catching display design and merchandising of library materials. Skill in providing reference, readers and media advisory service to all ages. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to interact with large crowds of children and teens with a positive and constructive attitude, with the goal of developing relationships and creating a welcoming library environment. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to perform dynamic story times for a wide range of ages. Ability to use technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

Experience in providing high volume, innovative library service (preferred, not required).

Second language fluency (preferred, not required).

A Master's in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or plans to receive one within 90 days of hire.
