Job Description

Department Information
The Library and Cultural Services Departments vision is to empower an environment of lifelong learning and cultural enrichment by stimulating learning and literacy, inspiring creativity, and integrating arts, culture and history into the lives of Aurorans.  We have two divisions within the department: Library and Cultural Services, both offering a variety of free programs and services to the community.

Library Services

  • 6 locations
  • Books, CDs, DVDs, magazines
  • Database and language learning programs
  • Public computers
  • Study space
  • Retirement centers and community events and programs or activities for all ages


Cultural Services

  • Aurora History Museum
  • Aurora Fox Theater
  • Bicentennial Arts Center
  • The Show Wagon
  • Art in Public Places collection (over 240 commissioned pieces around the city)

The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come-first serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performing high level reference searches and other customer service support
  • Planning and developing programs/classes and outreach efforts
  • COHS (Career Online High School) Program Coordinator
  • Instructing customers on library resources usage
  • Providing professional oversight and coverage of other functional areas
  • Based upon assignment, incumbents may serve as a lead workers making work assignments and monitoring work completion
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's Degree in library science


Experience:  

  • 6 months of library experience


Education Equivalency: Relevant professional level experience may be substituted for the education requirements on a year for year basis. 

Working Conditions

Physical Demands

  • Light physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 30 pounds
  • Frequent hand/eye coordination for operation of office equipment
  • Vision for reading and interpreting reports and data analysis and preparation
  • Frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communication with employees and citizens
  • Considerable walking and standing; frequent pushing, pulling, and climbing

 
Work Environment

  • Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment; occasionally works nights and weekend

  
Equipment Used

  • Frequently uses standard office equipment including computer, calculator, multi-line telephones, and copy/fax machines
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
