This intermediate level technical library position provides support to the State Publications
Library program through collection processing & maintenance; Serials processing & maintenance; cataloging; and
Circulation. This position works independently with minimal oversight once trained.

This position is responsible for and manages the entire physical collection. They also work in the digital
Process cataloged items; create item records; shelve publications.
Check bibliographic records for website content verification and update bibliographic records with any changes.
Create and distribute to depositories the change/deletion lists.
Maintain the stacks area; maintain the map case; shift when necessary – at both CDE and CTBL
Collect documents and prepare monthly depository mailing.
Wrap collection for preservation – determine what documents need to be wrapped and determine the process by
which it is done.
Provide input to maintain agency contact list.
Create Handles for digital repository documents, OCR documents as needed
During Legislative session, pick up the documents at the Capitol.
Write and maintain a procedures manual for all work processes.
Serials Processing & Maintenance
This position is responsible for and will manage the serials collection.
Check in new serials, enter new serial holdings; create & maintain index pages for serials.
Determine when a claim needs to be made and contact state agencies to claim missing issues.
Perform maintenance on existing records which is done independently.
Determine what serials need binding, organize and ship out to vendor and then create a new item record, make
appropriate catalog and index page changes to reflect binding.
Check in and circulate professional journals to CSL staff.
This position works in conjunction with the original cataloger to catalog state documents for specific documents
and the professional collection.
Execute copy cataloging for documents.
Create bibliographic records and corresponding OCLC records.
Process documents when complete.
The State Publications Library is part of the State Library in the Colorado Department of Education. The library provides free permanent public access to Colorado's state documents. In addition to the Director, there are 4 people in the department and the team works well together.
Two years of library experience with at least six (6) months of experience in copy cataloging. This experience must be
specifically identified in your employment history on the application to be considered.
Associates degree may substitute for two years of library experience but not for the (6) six months experience in copy
One year experience with copy cataloging
One year web experience and knowledge using HTML
Experience in project or task management
Demonstrated knowledge of integrated library software
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Knowledge of III Sierra ILS
Required Skills and Competencies:
Ability to work collaboratively with the team and also alone
Attention to detail, consistency, and accuracy.
Ability to deal with the physical requirements of shelving, shifting a collection and standing on ladders
Excellent customer service skills
