Job Description

General Purpose

This part-time position oversees and advocates for the Brewers Association (BA) historical collection. This position ensures the collection is safely and securely maintained and that it is accessible to both Brewers Association staff and approved external stakeholders. This position also captures the contemporary history of craft brewing and incorporates that material into the collection on an ongoing basis.

Essential Duties

  • Develop fluency in existing collection of video interviews with craft beer pioneers.
  • Serve as the advocate and representative for the collection to both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Work with internal marketing team on applications of collection materials.
    • Interface with external parties interested in accessing and utilizing the collection.
    • Tell the story of the archives to help stakeholders navigate the history to find their own stories to research and tell
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and evolve access policies for the collection.
  • Provide support to outside institutions that collect and archive beer history at a local, city, state, regional and national level.
    • Act as a national-wide resource for a broad network of beer historians that promotes the message and history of craft brewers.
  • Write collection description and finding aids to assist in navigation of the collection.
  • Write quarterly web posts or magazine articles to promote the collection.
  • Develop a program to encourage brewers to preserve their own history and archives.
  • Set annual plan and budget for collections initiatives.
  • Organize and lead brainstorming sessions to utilize the collection to enhance the Brewers Association mission, benefit members and promote the culture of craft brewing.
  • Select and oversee a third-party video editing service to edit all existing archive videos down the most compelling 10-20 minutes.
  • Write short video descriptions for all archive videos and upload to YouTube.
  • Work with in-house web and creative teams to buildout archive website architecture.
  • Work with in-house marketing team to build and execute archive marketing plan.
  • Produce and present historical collection exhibits at all Brewers Association events, including Great American Beer Festival, Craft Brewers Conference, Homebrew Con and SAVOR.
  • Oversee an annual update to the collection with all relevant association items including internal documents, publications, books and website material.
  • Investigate and select software to streamline public access to photo archive.
  • Update electronic document formats as necessary to ensure future accessibility.
  • Classify all collection materials by theme.
