Job Description
As the Youth Services Consultant, this position provides leadership to the Washington library youth services community through consulting, project management, and provision of services. As the professional level specialist for the agency, the incumbent works closely with youth services staff of Washington public, school and tribal libraries to establish best practices and standards of service. Facilitation of communication between youth services staff statewide and among collaborative partners is an important focus of this position.
Duties: Develop and implement policies, strategies and statewide initiatives to build library staff capacity to better serve youth in public, school, and tribal library settings; Provide professional development and training opportunities for library youth services staff; Provide consultation services to the public, school and tribal library community and to others concerned with providing library services to youth; In collaboration with other Library Development staff, researches and designs programs and grant proposals to meet the youth services needs of public, school, and tribal library communities and Washington State youth and family needs; Work collaboratively with and organize multidisciplinary and multiagency partnerships to promote public, school, and tribal libraries as partners which provide essential services necessary to the growth and development of Washington State youth and their families
