Job Description

 

General Summary of Position:

Reporting to the Access Services Manager, this full-time position supervises the Stacks Maintenance unit at the University of Denver Main Library and is responsible for coordinating stacks management projects and oversees the daily routine of the unit.  This position will hire, train supervise, and evaluate hourly and work study positions for operation of the unit, and may train other student workers in the Access Services Department to provide backup support.. This position will require a great deal of flexibility, project management, and creativity to ensure continuity of workflow in providing staff and patrons the necessary materials they require; and will participate as a member of the Access Services Department. Must be available to work Sunday through Thursday 9:30am-5:30pm.

Essential Functions:

STACKS: Works independently and recognizes, identifies and solves problems related to managing shelf space, stacks maintenance, and timely routing of library materials.   In consultation with library faculty and staff, oversees project management for Main Library stacks projects, including space inventory, shifting, shelf-reading and re-shelving. 35%

SUPERVISION:  Supervises, hires, and interviews student workers in the stacks unit at the Main Library.  Responsible for budgeting and scheduling of stacks student workers.  Trains student workers in unit workflow; ensures adequate coverage of unit during hours of operation; assists in the development of work standards for the department; provides leadership to all unit members.  Determines staffing levels and participation in stacks projects. Works closely with Access Services Manager and Circulation Supervisor to cross-train hourly and student employees. 35%

ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Coordinates retrieval of requested material; monitors pull-slip queues; troubleshoots problems related to work order requests; reviews and corrects item record status of incoming and outgoing materials.  Serves as vendor contact for compact shelving maintenance issues.  Compiles statistics for annual report.  20%

SERVICE DESK ON-CALL: Works on-call at the Service Desk assisting and coaching student employees on Service Desk activities utilizing the Alma system to checkout and check in library material, collect fines utilizing the credit card machine, answer user questions utilizing the University Libraries website, and refer patrons to the appropriate department within the library or DU campus as needed. Communicate access and borrowing polices to users and resolve patron issues. Forward unresolved concerns to Access Services Manager and Librarian as soon as possible and communicate Service Desk concerns and relevant information to Access Services staff and other stakeholders within the library. 10%

Supervisory Duties: 7-12 hourly staff

Experience (Required):

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library staff, users, and University Faculty; demonstrated organizational skills; ability to follow established procedures and perform work requiring attention to detail.  Experience performing detailed work in an automated system; ability to prioritize and work under pressure, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously is required. 

Experience (Preferred):

Previous library or material management; experience with Ex Libris, Alma ; working knowledge of LC classification schemes and subject headings; supervisory experience; prior project management experience.
