Job Description

Under the general direction of the Public Services Manager you will provide library support to the local business community. In partnership with other Adult Services Librarians, you will provide timely reference services; excellent reader's advisory and library instruction; innovative and creative programming; effective collection development; and limited circulation duties for patrons inside the library as well as within the community. Services will be primarily focused on adult patrons, but may also be provided for children and teens. You will perform other work as required. Schedule includes evenings and rotating weekend hours.

 This position is 30 hours a week.

 Examples of Duties:

  • Assist patrons in locating information and resources that meet their needs. Provide instructional assistance in the use of library-supported technologies and resources, including basic instruction in using new and emerging devices and digital resources.
  • Organize, coordinate and present events, programs, and instruction to library patrons, including use of demographic tools, business development programs, STEM and maker programs, and instruction in effective search strategies for using information resources.
  • Promote library services and programs for adults of all age ranges, visiting community and business organizations, senior living facilities, and any location promoting adult learning.
  • Review and select general reading and reference resources in a variety of formats, including print, audiovisual and electronic.
  • Manage and monitor collections to ensure they are current, accurate, and relevant. Manage appropriate portions of the acquisitions budget.
  • Create visual displays and informational brochures for adult library users.
  • Assume responsibility for Adult Services Division when working at the Reference Desk, and assume responsibility as person in charge of the Library in the absence of the Public Services Manager and Library Director.
  • Assist with development of grant proposals.
  • Maintain postings and filings of City materials in the Library.
  • Rotating schedule includes one Saturday and one Sunday afternoon in each 4 week rotation; days and evening hours are required. Most evening hours occur on Thursdays, either scheduled at the Library Reference Desk or in the community attending Chamber of Commerce events. Other evenings are occasionally required.

 General Qualifications:

Required: ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library Science or Information Science.
Preferred: One year of experience as a professional librarian in a municipal, public, or school library with strong experience working with adults and business community; strong experience with STEM programs and applications a big plus.
