Job Description

Grapevine, Texas, with a population of over 48,000 residents and covering 35 square miles, is located in northeast Tarrant County and is home to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. Ideally situated along Interstate Highway 635 and State Highways 114 and 121, Grapevine sits at the heart of the DFW metropolitan area, 21 miles northwest of Dallas and 19 miles northeast of Fort Worth. The City operates under a council-manager form of government. The Grapevine City Council is comprised of a Mayor and six City Council Members. The City Council appoints a professional City Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of the organization.

The City is seeking a participatory leader who is dedicated to public service, quality customer service, results-oriented management, and continuous improvement to serve as its new Library Director. The Library Director provides administrative leadership through planning, directing, and coordinating all activities of the municipal library system. The Director functions within a broad range of generally acceptable and known guidelines applying discretionary judgment to a variety of situations as appropriate with limited direction from the City Manager, Council, and Library Advisory Board. The successful candidate will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, exercise diplomacy and political acumen, and be a proven and innovative director who works effectively in a well-established and creative library organization.

The selected candidate must hold a master’s degree in library and information science or a related field from an ALA Accredited college or university supplemented by seven (7) years of progressive supervisory experience, including two (2) years of leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Must pass a national/federal background check and have a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy. Experience in grant writing preferred.
