The Community

Description of the District

The Greater Lyons Area has a population of approx. 5000, with 2000 of those residing in the municipality of the Town of Lyons itself. The District is funded through mill levy revenue and grants. Our area is known for its natural beauty, active arts and music scene, numerous outdoor recreational activities, and the famous red Lyons sandstone quarries. The population is comprised of artists and musicians, science and technology-oriented professionals, small business owners, seniors, long-time farmers, ranchers, quarry operators, and many young families. Severely impacted by a flood in 2013, the community has rallied to become even stronger. It is still engaged in numerous flood recovery projects, including bridges, roads, parks, and affordable housing. Nearby are two universities and a community college. Boulder, Longmont, and Rocky Mountain National Park are all just a 20-minute drive.
