Job Description

The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries invites applications from collaborative and innovative candidates for the position of History and Philosophy Librarian. This tenure track librarian will act as subject specialist and primary library liaison to the Department of History, the Department of Philosophy, and other humanities areas as assigned. The History and Philosophy Librarian will engage with the academic community in order to facilitate collaborations and partnerships that increase the impact of library expertise, services, and resources. Liaison responsibilities include providing research consultation services to users at all levels throughout the research life cycle. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a responsive and adaptive approach to meeting the teaching, learning, and research needs of students, faculty, and staff.

The History & Philosophy Librarian reports to the Director of the Arts & Humanities department. The department includes other subject liaisons, including Art, Architecture, Romance Languages, English Literature, Classics, and Music. The librarian will contribute to the programmatic and collaborative work of the Arts & Humanities department, as well as collaborating with other departments in the Libraries, especially the Open & Digital Scholarship Department, and the Special Collections, Archives & Preservation department. Significant parts of the responsibilities of this tenure-track position are research/creative work and service, in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado Boulder.

  • Bachelor's or greater degree in History, or equivalent degree in a related discipline, combined with a deep understanding of the issues and practices associated with historical research.

  • Commitment to providing outreach to constituent communities.
  • Experience or coursework participating in collection development in an academic or research library.
  • Experience or coursework providing reference and/or instructional services.

  • Commitment to innovative, inclusive, and user-centered library services.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and creative problem solving skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating on projects in a team environment. 
  • Potential for research, scholarly work, and professional service.

  • Advanced degree in History or another relevant field.
  • Experience providing instructional and research services related to humanities or area studies.
  • Reading knowledge of one or more additional non-English languages. 
  • Experience in an academic or research library.
  • Experience with grant writing or fundraising.
