  • Manage, organize, assist with directing and coordinating the assigned area of responsibility including the direct supervision of professional, administrative, technical, clerical staff and volunteers.

What you will do:

Design, plan, promote and implement services for the second floor service desk. Create a highly trained team to provide excellent customer service.  Responsible for ensuring that the public service desk is ideally staffed at all times including securing sub and temp coverage when necessary. Maintain a clean, attractive, stocked, and fully functioning environment.  Work with IT department to keep public computers, printing system, AV presentation system and WiFi running optimally. Work at the public service desk to satisfy patron requests in person, on the phone, and via email. Provide general assistance and information about the library's services and procedures. Interview users and determine information needs. Assist and instruct patrons on the use of library collections, online searches, computer software applications, and downloadable collections. Explain library policies and procedures to patrons and determines best course of action to resolve issues in a courteous and positive manner. Conduct in-depth research; refer patrons to other resources in the community as needed. Provide reader's advisory services.. Guide customers seeking assistance with public computer services, printing and copying, or digital and emerging technologies at the public service desk or through instructional classes. Develop and implement Tech Lab services including public computing stations, one-on-one and drop-in tech help, and group instruction.  Explain library policies and procedures to patrons and determine best course of action to resolve issues in a courteous and positive manner. Participate in library planning to optimize patron experience with public computers, emerging technologies, and reference services.

Minimum Qualifications

Training - Master's degree from an accredited college or university in library science or records/information management or closely related field.

Experience - At least three years of increasingly responsible leadership experience in assigned area in library work.  This experience must also include supervisory or lead work, which demonstrates the ability to perform the Essential Required Tasks.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: – Must be at least 21 years of age.  New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: interviews, reference checks, background checks including local police check and sex-offender registry, and fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI.

Working Conditions

The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crawl. Physical demands are described as light (exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  Data entry and other tasks may require sitting at a computer for several hours. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
