Job Description

Auraria Library in Denver, Colorado seeks a First-Year Teaching and Learning Librarian to join our Education and Outreach Services Department. This position will support student success by focusing on information literacy instruction, outreach, and assessment for first-year students at all three institutions located on the Auraria Campus: the University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the Community College of Denver. The First-Year Teaching and Learning Librarian will partner with librarian colleagues to provide pedagogical training and impart knowledge and skills useful for those working with a diverse group of first-year students, and will also work with the teaching team to develop and deliver course-integrated instruction sessions to undergraduate and graduate students in a range of academic disciplines. Other responsibilities of this position include participating in outreach activities to build campus and community partnerships and creating and maintaining web guides, tutorials, and other digital learning objects.

As a faculty member, the librarian in this position participates on Library and campus-wide committees and in CU Denver faculty governance. This is a 12-month non-tenure track faculty position, located in the Education and Public Services division of the Library and reporting to the Education and Outreach Services Department Head.

Institutional Profile

The Auraria Campus is located in downtown Denver, three blocks from the Colorado Convention Center that hosted the ALA Midwinter Meeting in early 2018. The campus community has over 40,000 students, faculty, and staff, making Auraria the largest campus in the state. More than half of the first-year students at all three institutions identify as people of color, and first-generation college students likewise make up the majority of the student body. The First-Year Teaching and Learning librarian will participate in an environment that recognizes and celebrates difference, and will be expected to engage in the continuous process of examining our practices as library workers in order to make our library, campus, and community more equitable and inclusive.

  • Creates and maintains web guides, tutorials, and other digital learning objects.

Outreach

Research Help

  • Manages the Library’s IM/Chat reference services.
  • Delivers and evaluates research help services, including consultations, face-to-face meetings inside or outside the Library, and via virtual services (using IM, email, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or program.
  • Experience teaching and assessing information literacy in an academic library or higher education setting.
  • Experience with outreach and/or services for first-year students.
